After being bowled out for 149 in their second innings, England reduced Australia to 29 for one meaning the tourists have a lead of 168 runs.

England openers Heather Knight and Caroline Atkins were dismissed early in the day and it was once again Charlotte Edwards who steadied the innings once Lydia Greenway was run out.

Edwards put on a 57 run partnership with Jenny Gunn as the pair calmly rebuilt for England.

The innings changed thanks to a devastating spell by Rene Farrell (5-23) shortly after lunch which included a hat-trick.

First Gunn edged to Jess Cameron at first slip, then two overs later Farrell claimed her historic treble leaving England 95 for seven.

It fell to England’s lower order to bolster the score with Holly Colvin and Isa Guha putting on 41.

Colvin made her highest score of 21 before she was run out.

Number 11 Lauren Griffiths faced six balls before confusion led to Guha being run out as England were bowled out for 149.

It meant England set Australia a target of 198 as they took to the field for the final 17 overs of day three.

Katherine Brunt put the pressure on when she claimed the early wicket of Rachael Haynes in the third over of Australia’s second innings.

Australia finished on 29 for one at the close.
Jenny Gunn said: ”We have runs on board so the pressure is on them to perform tomorrow.

“It was good to build a partnership with Charlotte in the middle and Holly (Colvin) and Isa (Guha) made a good contribution later on.

“We picked up a wicket with the new ball tonight and have another shot with it in the morning. A couple of wickets and the pressure is all on them.”
