Weekend July 23-24

What a fantastic weekend of Cricket played by our Sussex squads!

We had 2 matches this weekend with two brilliant wins!

 Under 15s:

The 15s played at Blackstone to Middlesex, and knowing a win should secure us a place in the quarter finals the girls were up for the game, especially when Middlesex turned up with only 9 players!

Having a number of player injured and on holiday we selected 4 under 13 players to come up and play and they did not fail at this level.

After winning the toss, Middlesex decided to bat first. All the Sussex bowlers bowled a good length and good lines and managed to bowl Middlesex out for 95. Issy Collis was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 22 off 7 overs. Paige Scholfield took 1 for 15 and Ellie Monk (u13) took 1 for 10 off 5 overs.

Sussex started well looking to use the gaps in the field well, but after losing openers, Issy Collis and Abi Freeborn, captain Alicia Caillard was on for a captains innings and lead the side to 98 for 3 and finishing on 42 not out off 24 balls. Also Alicia hit a massive 6, the boundary was the size of the seniors and this 6 was huge!

With their win the under 15s look set on reaching the quarter finals (they are top of the table and look like they have won the league) just waiting for the ECB to confirm. They will play the quarter final on Saturday 6th August, I will send more news when I hear it.

I have to say I am so proud and so pleased for the girls, for those who may know this group they haven’t had it easy, two years ago in the 13s they hadn’t won a game for 2 years, last year they only won a couple of matches, but this year they have been outstanding and I am so pleased for them.

Seniors:

The seniors demolished Yorkshire today away at Harrogate. Yorkshire won the toss and decided to bat first (a decision I am sure they would later regret) Alexia took an early wicket and wickets continued to flow, with Arran Brindle following with a wicket soon after and Izi Noakes bowling with some pace and taking 2 quick wickets, Yorkshire were then 54 for 4. The combination of Holly Colvin with the ball and Sarah Taylor behind the stumps was impressive, I believe Sarah took 3 stumpings off Holly’s bowling (if I am wrong someone who was up there please correct me). In the end Holly took 5 wickets for only 3 runs!! And Yorkshire were bowled out for 74. Izi Noakes finished on 2 for 12, Arran Brindle 2 for 20 and Alexia Walker 1 for 21.

Sarah Taylor lead from the front with the bat and helped Sussex to victory within 20 overs, after scoring 30 runs. Rosalie Birch supported with 19 as did Caroline Atkins 12 not out and Arran 11.

A fantastic win by the Seniors, I just hope I am allowed to come back and watch after not being able to make it today, I don’t want to be banned from watching the 13s and the seniors!!!
