Only one of the three scheduled matches went
ahead this weekend due to the bad weather.
The under 11s match against Essex was cancelled on Sunday and the 17s
home fixture against Kent was cancelled, but I am in the process of
re-arranging the match with Kent so will keep you all updated.
The only match to go ahead this weekend was the Seniors at Brighton
College where they lost to Berkshire.
Having lost the toss, Sussex were put in and lost Hannah Phelps early
on, Rosalie Birch followed soon after with Sussex on 40 for 2. Caroline
Atkins and Sarah Taylor put on 45 until Sarah was run out. Two wickets
fell very quickly before Caroline was joined by Georgia Elwiss and put
on a further 36 runs before Caroline was caught for 52. Sussex were soon
136 for 9, but Charlotte Russell and Sophie Parnell made sure we saw the
50 overs out and reached 153 for 9.
Like the last couple of senior matches, openers Alexia Walker and
Georgia Elwiss have both been impressive with the new ball, keeping the
runs down in the first 20 overs. Rosalie Birch ran out one of the
openers, but Sussex were unable to dismiss Heather Knight and she helped
lead Berkshire to victory winning by 6 wickets and finishing on 76 not
out. Sophie Parnell also bowled well taking 2 for 9 off her 5 overs.
The seniors have a months break in terms of County Championship matches
while England have the quadrangular series which Holly Colvin and Sarah
Taylor are involved in. I am sure you will join me in wishing them luck
for the series.
The seniors actually have a friendly on Saturday 9th July which is not
in the fixture booklet, they will be playing touring side Trinidad &
Tabago at Brighton College. (Details at foot of
