2012 Week 2
by Charlotte Burton
We have finally played some cricket!! Just the one
match was played last weekend, the under 15s played Kent.
The 15s unfortunately lost by 24 runs to Kent in a
very low scoring match, mainly due to the ball staying low and the
outfield which had not been cut so there were not many 4s!!
Sussex fielded first and bowled Kent out for 73 (32
of the runs were wides). Ellen Burt finished with 3 for 10 off 8, Holly
McGratten (who is in her first season for Sussex) took 3 for 11
It was not the easiest wicket to bat on, when the
ball hit the pitch it just rolled which got a lot of our players out as
they did not move their feet or did not play on their front foot.
Georgia Tibble who came in at number 8 was the only player to get into
double figures and looked to attack from ball one and scored a good,
quick 15. But it was not enough and we were bowled out for 49 off 28
overs. It seems the weather is still playing a major part with the
wickets being slow and low.
I was at the game and we actually bowled really
well and fielded excellently which is a huge positive. I know the
players will learn with their batting on playing on wickets like that.
This weekend we have 2 matches happening:
Saturday – Under 13s v Essex @ Blackstone –
Sunday – Under 11s v Middlesex @ away at
Merchant Taylors School (was due to be played at Belmont school but has
been changed in the last hour as the pitch is not ready)
