2012 Week 3
by Charlotte Burton

This weekend we had 4 matches, 2 on Saturday with the 15s and 13s and 2 on Sunday with the 11s and the Seniors.
We had 2 wins and 2 loses this weekend.
Under 11s
Again I do not have the score sheet, but have been informed it was a close match, which went down to the last over with 2 balls to spare. Sussex kept Essex down to 51 and we got it in the last over. That makes it 2 out of 2 for Sussex under 11s!!!
Under 13s
The 13s were at home to Middlesex on Saturday. Middlesex batted first and Molly Beadle took a wicket early on. However the two batsman at the crease played with ease and worked the ball well into gaps as well as running well between the wickets. Both these batsman scored 100s and after 35 overs Middlesex had scored 265. It was one of the biggest totals I have seen at under 13 level, but Sussex started well, with Lucy Western and Nicola Howell and after 4 overs we were 47 for 1, then after 10 overs 74 for 2 and then wickets began to fall regularly and we were bowled out for 108.
Under 15s
The 15s were away to Essex at Garon Park on Saturday and did not have a great day. Sussex batted first and were bowled out for just 35!!! Extras were top score with 12!! The 15s did take 2 wickets, but the total was too easy for Essex and they reached the score in 14 overs.
Seniors
The Women had their first match against Surrey at the Oval yesterday and couldn’t of started off any better to the season. Sussex won the toss and elected to bat first. Georgia Adams and Caroline Atkins opened the batting and put on a partnership of 68 before Caroline was caught for 32. Georgia continued her innings with Sarah Taylor and looked on course for her 50 until she was run out on 45, with a direct hit. Sarah and Arran Brindle then continued to take on the surrey bowlers and were scoring quickly, with Sarah reaching 50 and which resulted in taking the batting power play in the 33rd over. However Arran was soon caught at Square leg for 40 off 28 balls.
Holly Colvin and Sarah continued to dominate with the bat and manipulate the field with some very clever batting and some new shots (Sarah’s hit to fine through her legs!!!!) Sarah reached her 100 in 83 balls, a fantastic innings by Sarah. Holly soon picked up her 50. Sarah was caught with 1 ball left for 110 off 93 balls, leaving Alexia Walker to hit 2 off the last ball and having a 200% strike rate!!! Holly finished on 58 off 55 balls and Sussex finished with 322 for 4.

We started well with the ball, with Alexia taking a wicket off the 5th ball, bowling Holly Knight. Surrey did build a small partnership before Izi Noakes bowled Ebony-Jewel Rainford Brent. Holly then came onto bowl and soon took 2 wickets. Georgia Elwiss came back onto bowl and took two good wickets.
Sussex kept Surrey down to 180 for 8 off their 50 overs. A great start to the season by the women.
This weekend we have 3 matches:

Under 15s – Saturday 2nd June v Suffolk @ Blackstone
Seniors – Monday 4th June v Yorkshire @ Harrogate
